We have become attached to using the Internet in our daily routine. It has become a part of our existence. With the number of devices that run on the internet growing every day, getting good internet connection has become more of a necessity than a luxury.

But don’t panic if your internet does not work, you can fix it with some simple tips and tricks. Sometimes restarting the router fixes the issue.

When you are faced with internet connection problems, you need to start with checking your devices and Wi-Fi router instead of calling your ISP right away. The problem can be from your side, so the first thing you should do is check before you call your internet provider.

If your device is connected, but the data doesn’t transfer, you can try these tips to troubleshoot the issue. Follow the points highlighted below or find more tips here “no internet connection.”

Check if the Wi-Fi is on

Most devices have a Wi-Fi on or off button. You need to make sure that it is turned on. It can be found in the router and usually has the wireless symbol. Press it, and the device should get connected.

Try restarting the router

If you are having connectivity issues, you can reboot your device and router. Doing this may solve the problem. If restarting the router does not restore your internet connection, try turning it off and wait for a few minutes before you put it back on.

Check if all the wires are connected

If you are working and the internet connection goes off, switch off your device and the router. Check if all the wires are correctly inserted and then restart your devices.

Restore the factory settings of your router

If the device is still not detecting the signal, restore the factory settings of your router by pressing the reset button for a few seconds. The only drawback to doing this is that you will lose the settings and will have to reconfigure your router.

If your Wi-Fi connection is slow, follow these tips to make it faster:

Secure your Wi-Fi network

Protect your Wi-Fi network with a strong password that cannot be easily cracked. If the password is not strong enough, others might mooch off your internet connection and make it slow. A weak Wi-Fi password also leaves your personal information open to hackers. You could also set the Service Set Identifier (SSID) broadcasting option to off so that your internet connection is not visible to others in the first place.

Keep your router up-to-date

Update your router periodically to make it more efficient and fast. Keep track of the updates to the router’s firmware.

Shift the router’s channel

If your router is set on a channel that tends to get congested, shift it to other channels that are less likely to get congested. This could make your Wi-Fi network stronger and faster.

Replace the router with a new one

Using the same old router that you have been using for years might save you some money but will slow down your internet speed. So, if the router is old or damaged, it is time to get a new one.

A limited range on your Wi-Fi can be frustrating and be restrictive. Follow these tips to get rid of the range issues.

Change the location of the router

The location of your router affects the signal strength. So place your router at the center of your home, in an open setting, rather than in cupboards or drawers that can hinder the signal transmission. Also, keep the router at least 10 feet away from other devices like a microwave, cordless phone or baby monitors as they can interrupt the signal transmission.

Extend the signal using an extender

A Wi-Fi extender, often called the Repeater, can be used to increase the mobility and strength of your Wi-Fi signal. If you want to use your Wi-Fi at a long distance, an extender is a great option.
