Sometimes marriage doesn’t work out. Couples tie the knot too quickly, without proving their compatibility, or even if they do – their personalities change over the years. One day, the couple may realize they are not the best fit for each other.

When one or both sides become unhappy, interactions change from positive to negative, and the partners avoid one another. Life suddenly becomes more challenging than it used to be. These are signs that there are issues in a marriage, and sometimes, people are too tired to fight for it.

Thoughts of divorce come creeping in, and by the time the realization hits, both sides know the marriage is over. Papers are passed along, and attorneys are paid. Just like that, marriage has ended.

Even though divorce might be one of the scariest things that can happen in one’s life, it’s not the end of the world. Almost half of all marriages in the US end up in divorce or separation, showing that it’s not that uncommon.

The Divorce Rate Is Dropping

The US’s divorce rates have been going down since the 1980s, but what about other countries? The number of divorces observed globally has increased in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Russia has the highest divorce rate globally, with 4.7 per 1,000 people, and Guatemala has the lowest rate globally, with only 0.4 divorces per 1,000 people.

Nobody expects their marriage to end in a divorce. Even though love is strong, sometimes it’s not enough. Remaining in a tiresome environment isn’t a solution when the will to fight has disappeared. But according to divorce statistics, many people regret filing for divorce and wish they had tried harder to save their marriage. This statistic proves that it may still be worth giving a failing marriage another shot.
